Patricia Haley wrote these books based on King David's biblical story, and attempted to give it a worldly twist. The stories are about the Mitchell family - Dave Mitchell built a multi-million dollar company based on ministries with his wife Madeline, BUT he cheated on her with his administrative assistant, Sherry - he ended up leaving Madeline for Sherry - but he never stopped loving Madeline. Sherry always felt threatened by her position in Dave's life until the day he died - both sets of kids felt sibling rivalry and felt neglected by their father in life and after his death. Don the oldest living son felt slighted when his father appointed Joel as CEO upon his death - Don had worked with Dave to learn the business and Joel was younger and did not understand the ins and outs of the family business.
These books were very wordy and although the plot seemed intriguing, I could not engage in the characters or their story lines. It was too slow for me to want to even continue. I finished the first one Chosen; briefly skimmed through the sequel Destined; and I will not bother looking at the third installment Broken which hits stores this month.
