I have a girlfriend (who we will refer to as chuckles) - no matter what way we opt to communicate, I know I will laugh and hard through most of the convo - and today her and my mom ganged up on me. SMH! We will get back to that later...but first let me tell you about the first issue me and chuckles have...we are both petty. We have accepted it and we are actually quite content in our realization, however, we recognize we must one day mature.
Let me define petty - life is never without conflict. Mature women talk it out, indulge in some conflict resolution and maybe agree to disagree, right?! Wellllllllllllllllllllllllll, we tend to hold grudges and not in a nasty way. BUT if you do something to us we do not like, then it is imperative we distance ourselves in order to not hurt anyone's feelings. No matter how many times the other party reaches out, we ignore emails/texts (if we do respond the answers are brief...never engaging in conversation). And don't even think about trying to get us on the phone or to go out with you - it simply is NOT going to happen. And what me and chuckles cannot understand is why these people are unrelenting in contacting us. If they have known us for a period of time, then they KNOW HOW WE ARE (and they should also know this will not change anytime soon, since we are so accepting of our immaturity pettiness). We find it so difficult to forgive and then forget.
The best thing these parties can do to save face (and more chuckles and blank stares on our behalf) is apologize genuinely and then wait for us to get over it...we always do, but the more you TRY to act like NOTHING transpired and we are all buddy buddy, the more distance will be between us. It is important to the both of us the other party owns up to their mistakes and take responsibility for their actions.
Now on to the intervention my mom and chuckles are partnered in - I WILL be getting not only a social life, but a date soon! Chuckles is going to teach me how to really just date and juggle options until I figure out what best complements me...and she plans on marrying me off and since she's a pro at weddings, she can definitely spearhead this project. I'm all in! Time to be adventurous, right?! Stay tuned - I am sure there will be some funny stories, since let her tell it I am now "fresh meat" since I have been removed from the social scene for so long.
